Dance for Spring

We experienced a warm, spring afternoon at the park yesterday. Spring was batting her frilly eyelashes, teasing us with promises of rising temperatures and outdoor play.

My daughters buzzed along participating in a celebratory spring dance. A hop. A skip. A clap. A spin and a stumble.

My eldest girl spontaneously composed a springtime song, weaving together out of tune notes and random lyrics. And, she was most unafraid to turn up the volume.

Spring is here in the morning…It is here today…today!

My toddler bobbed her head and served as backup singer with an appropriate “Da-la-la” here and “Shoo-Dop-Wop” there.

I smiled at this blissful scene. Both girls were unafraid to express their happiness and unashamed to celebrate their delight. What if we all took a vow to maintain this pristine, child-like joy? Wouldn’t it make the world a tad bit brighter?

In conference rooms across the business world
“Before this meeting is adjourned, I’d like to say….Spring is here in the morning..today…today!”

On the shoulders of freeways everywhere
“OK, ma’am, I need to see your driver’s license and registration….Shoo-Dop-Wop.”

In courtrooms all over our country
“I declare this marriage null and void…But, first…let’s take a stroll to the park. Great day for a picnic.”

In unemployment offices
“Ok, Mr. Smith, when was your last date of employment? Ah….is now the appropriate time for cartwheels?”

In dentist’s offices
“Looks like we’ll have to extract 4 teeth this time. How about a round of lollipops before the Novocain kicks in?”

Across the desk of the IRS auditor
“So, these numbers just don’t add up…And, yes, I do see the pretty birdie out the window.”

In banks
“Bounced checks do have fees, ya know…Oh! Look! Lucky penny.”

In mommy blogs
“My hubby just doesn’t get me anymore. My baby still doesn’t sleep thru the night and my mom drives me crazy. But, I still skip and dance with reckless abandon.”

I guess it all starts with just one person, right? Catch ya later…Got some skipping to catch up on.

“Spring is here in the morning….Today…Today!”

Cute..your daughter sounds like a true free spirit. My son is such a babbler but my fiance and I will randomly just sing so I think he will be like your daughter when he gets older and just sing when he is happy and feels like it!

Love this! What a super idea. Thanks so much for sharing that childlike exuberance we seem to lose too quickly. I'm fascinated with watching my 11-month-old grandson's feelings -- when he's happy or content or excited or aggravated, his whole body shows it. There's no hiding!

I think I might love you.

I JUST had this experience, walked in the door from a long first-day-of-warm walk with my boys. I twirled and hopped and doo wopped right along with them and was thinking these same thoughts that are here. We have so much to learn from the kiddos. Your writing is so great, lady.

That's how I felt today as we walked to the park; I, too, even at 26 become ridiculously excited about spring!

One of the paybacks for sleepless nights -- the joy of experiencing life through their innocent eyes.

Cute!
One of the perks of being a nanny-I do live my life like this!

If I tried skipping I'd need an ambulance....but I don't mind singing spring a little song...as long as spring doesn't mind it being out of tune!

I am SOOOO ready for Spring. We had a warm week to tease us, and now we're back to the cold.

But tomorrow morning as I'm rushing to get the kids ready for daycare and myself ready for work, I'll definitely be thinking "Shoo-Dop-Wop".

I am living in spring almost year round. Believe me, sometimes it can get old. When you are grumpy and down in the dumps, the last thing you want is Bambi staring at you through the bedroom window!

My best, Lynn

I really do wish adults were a bit more like kids - the world would certainly be more fun.

You have inspired me to go to work and unload the freight truck with my clown nose and squeeky horn. ((wink wink)). I do love how Spring makes me feel even if I am a bitter old woman with little free spirit left in me. My kids were the same way yesterday about spring being here--- finally.

One of my boys is like this...oh look at the pretty birdie and the lucky penny part. I'm always just afraid he'll see these things when we're on the edge of a cliff or on a ski lift. When he sees something beautiful, safety goes by the wayside!

Aren't they so sweet!?! I was singing, too... Spring is FINALLY here... today! TODAY!

Love it! Everyone should feel free to sing and dance like nobody's watching! So-called "grown-ups" need that most of all!

and I thought my daughter was the only one to make up crazy songs and sing unashamedly at the top of her lungs. *L*

Wish spring was poking her head out around here though :(

Ahhh, to be young again! The world would definitely be a brighter place if we all would embrace the child within!

Cute post - love it!

Love it! Ever notice how you can't skip and be crabby at the same time? You never see a scowling-skipper.

Such an awesome post! You almost had me doing cartwheels right here at work!
What? You want to pick up your new light fixtures, sure, but how about some cartwheels first? You know you want to!
Awesome. I love the way kids can remind us of what is really important.

See, I have the same attitude/ thoughts as your daughter. And no one thinks I'm cute or funny. Sigh.

I'm so jealous! Spring came here a week ago, and then took off leaving a minor tsunami in it's wake. And I'm only exagerrating a little :)

I'll join your daughter in the "Spring Dance" and see if it brings us any luck in our neck of the woods!

I love that our kids can help us see the world through their eyes, if just for a moment! If we could do so all the time, what a different world we could have.

How cute is that!!!

So cute! I love how kids just break out in random happiness. The other day I was shopping with my daughter (4) and my son (14 months) and since the store wasn't crowded, I allowed my daughter to push a full sized cart all by herself, just to appease her. I was mortified when a few moments later I heard, LOUDLY, "Whee-hee-HEEEEEEEEEEEEE" as she pushed the cart and then hopped on the back for a short ride. Oh my goodness!
However, you have to let kids revel in their unabashed kid-ness.

Love this. I'm going to park it today with the boy, and maybe teach him how to skip. Or jump rope. And definately sing a spring song. Thanks!

Spring was here for two days and then left on the day it was to arrive officially. *sigh*

I think I can still skip a little to celebrate the idea of Spring. ;)
