I think I have a crush on Friday.
By mid-week, I get weak in the knees anticipating his arrival. On Thursday, it begins to sink in. He’s coming!
And, when he arrives, I embrace him and cover him with wet kisses! Oh! Friday! Friday! Friday! My favorite, favorite day!
Friday is that kind of a guy. He fills your head with promises of lazy Saturday mornings, breakfast in bed, picnics in the park and nights out on the town.
He’s a bit of a lady’s man, really. All over town, ladies bat their eyelashes his way, hoping he’ll pay them a visit. And, although he is a love-‘em-and-leave-‘em type, there does seem to be enough of him to go around. He never seems to disappoint. I mean, who complains about Friday?
And, I’ve never known anyone to fight over the guy. Rather, everyone is thrilled just to get their tiny piece of the pie. “Thank God!! It’s Friday!”
As a matter of fact, I think the men are in on this, too. There seems to be a collective sigh heard around the world upon his end of the week arrival.
Everyone is giddy. A little lighter. More relaxed.
Then, he leaves us as quickly as he came, hand in hand with Lady Sunday. Heartbroken, we’re left with some boring guy named Monday. You know the type. All work and no play. Nose to the grindstone. Beady eyed. Cranky. And really teed off that he missed the party.
What a gigolo, that Friday guy, huh? A regular Good Time Charlie.
Sigh.
But, we always take him back, don’t we?

Must gush (again!) about how much I love your writing style! I love this post about love-'em-and-leave-'em Friday. It is so very true... for everyone else.
I kind of dread the weekend (now that I am temporarily a single parent) because there is this great expanse of time to fill and two little sets of eyes asking, "What are we going to do now, Mama?"
That Friday is such a Casanova. I get the attraction to Friday - the romance, the promises, the anticipation.
But I can resist his charms. I prefer the steady, dependable Saturday. He's not as flashy and full of promises as his brother Friday. But it's great to spend a lazy morning wrapped in his arms followed by a cozy afternoon outing of one kind or another.
Saturday has staying power that the flashier Friday just can't quite deliver.
Great post! :)
I'm all for Solitude Sunday. For me he delivers a day without kids for a 4 hour period. He gives me the freedom to be, do, have what I want in that 4 hour period. If Sunday is really generous he will allow me more that the agreed on time period. The best part is that he is becoming more generous with each week he visits. I love Sunday.
You are hilarious! I love this analogy. So true.
Hi I love Friday too! He doesn't seem to mind when I get a real "POETS" attitude either:
P:Piss
O:On
E:Everything
T: Tomorrow's
S: Saturday
What a guy!
That Friday is definitely an alright guy in my book. I'll take any piece of him I can.
great post!
Well done, Michele. A very clever post. :D
awesome post, you write so well!
it's already lady sunday here. *sigh*
Oh yes! I love me some Friday!
I am already to skip to friday again after sunday.
I love Friday for his potential. All that promise of a good time is hard to pass up. And if Friday doesn't quite live up to my expectations, then there is always Saturday to pick up the slack.
(Did you know most women marry men for their potential and not necessarily for who his is at that point in time? So, I've heard. Interesting thought though, huh?!)
Love your posts!!! You are just a very talented lady! Have a great Sunday!
I have known that Friday guy for years.. ans still yearn for him each week...sigh..life should have more Fridays!!!
Jan :)
You really are talented... Never thought of friday like that..bit you hit it head now.... now I am broken hearted waiting for boreing MONDAY...ugh... wait, I am off tomorrow...TGIM
Your blog always brings a smile to my face. You are so right I love Friday. It is the day that I look forward to more than all the rest. But now it's rainy Sunday and all I can think about the Monday just around the corner.
Oh I do feel the same way. LOL Great post!
So clever!! Enjoyed this post!
Sigh. I miss Friday. Sunday night is a bitch.
And here I am stuck with Lady Sunday once again. Though I have to say, she just stepped up to the plate and called off all my men to the Rangers game. Without me. Oh, darn. Me and Lady Sunday are whipping up some margaritas!
How sad is it that I cant really tell one day from the next except on those days I have to do carpool with the preschoolers (three days a week). So sad so sad so sad. But I did get to do a little ladies night out at a wine and food party this weekend. First outing like that in about a year!!!
Sadly, yes we do. I'm so glutton for punishment waiting in the window for him to finally arrive around 5 p.m. friday afternoon. The anticipation kills me every time!
My best, Lynn
I'm really back now. I promise.
Just stopping by to say hey, thank you for following my blog, and I love your blog! You crack me up! However, I think that I kinda love Saturday a little more than Friday. :)
We do always take him back, don't we? Suckers.
Oh Friday...how I am pining for him TODAY...will he ever come again?
Hey Mamma, I left you a meme over at my place. Stop by and check it out!
Brilliant! So, so clever! I love this post!
Ah Friday... I'm already looking forward to seeing him again.
Great post. :)
The awful thing about working in a 7 day a week restaurant is there is no special day that is always Friday. :(
I've started 'things' with the other days.
:sigh:
One day.
Every freakin' week I take him back!
hey! i have an award for you over on my blog today, com on over to check it out!
LOL! I love it! I love reading your posts, they are so funny and so true! Friday and I have a love hate relationship. I tend to like Saturday a little more. But - he often promises relaxing days and that is NEVER what happens!
so true...so true.....
I'm not an any day girl. lol. But Fridays does have that charm ...
Amen to that! I just finished up my student teaching and Fridays were what I had to make it to each week so I could crash all weekend!
Well said!! I love fridays!! you are the best writer!!
You are so creative.
I think Friday is a con-man. He promises a "weekend" but I've yet to differentiate it from any other day as a SAHM!
;)
We call Friday "the fat part of the weekend". Not because he's pudgy, but because he represents the entirety of the weekend being arrayed before us. The wedge of weekend just gets slimmer and slimmer until it fades away to nothing.
