I have come to understand that motherhood is a form of surrender.
A surrender to the chaos…
“You! Stop! You! Sit! You! Come! You! No! You! ……”
A surrender to the goop…
“Gesundheit…..Ok. Ick.”
A surrender to the noises…
“Clang! Clang! AHHH! Brrzzt! Blech! No! MINE!”
A surrender to the confusion…
“Where did what go? Who? When? Huh? Which? Well….I dunno…”
A surrender to the stickiness…
“So, what is that pooled at the bottom of my purse?”
A surrender to the mystery…
“So, how the heck did this get shoved all the way down here?”
A surrender to the mess…
“Cheerios in the DVD player is not just one those things!”
Thankfully, this surrender is topped with kisses, belly laughs and adoring smiles. And, I am happy to wave the white flag of surrender for that anytime.
Cheers to motherhood!

Cheers!
Agreed, on all counts. Give in to the chaos or else go insane.
I love the way you think!
Yup! I give in all the time. Though sometimes I do scream into a pillow after saying to many STOP! Come here! Will ya quit bugging your sister, dog...whatever!
he he
That is fabulous! It's such a dilemma, because it seems as though I will lose something of myself if I surrender--but really, peace is worth so much. Now that my kids are in school, I'm reclaiming a little at a time of what I've surrendered. But summer's coming, so time to adopt the easy going summer attitude...
Cheers to you! Happy Belated Mother's Day!
Yeah to motherhood. I love it and I think I have funny sounds coming out of my mouth also.
That about sums it up! In my house it is a constant struggle to just keep my head above water.
AMEN!!!
I hear you!
Right now, we have head lice, green noses, conjunctivitis and nappy rash. We just finished our jam sandwhiches after shoving them down our pants (our clean pants). I surrender! You little icky, sticky cherubs win!!!!
Love it.
I don't think anyone could say it better....we happily surrender....
I always LOVE your posts!!
I agree there is nothing that compares to hugs and kisses.
it's also a surrender to the fact that yoru body will never look the same. sigh...
And as they get older: "Do you really think you should change your major again? Isn't four times enough?"
It is the happiest of surrenders. Well said. :)
Cheers to motherhood...and CHEERS to great blog posts!!!
Yep, I agree. I've surrendered all of these things too. But you know what, it's all worth it, isn't it?
oh dear the stickiness at the bottom of my purse could be an endless list of things these days. Usually all having to do with one of the two of my kids. Where do they find Jelly to just smear on themselves when I'm not looking? Who knows.
My best, Lynn
I reached into my purse yesterday (at a store) and came up with a used kleenex, a diaper, one sock, and a half eaten cereal bar. Hmmm. I remember when my purse housed normal things like...money. :)
I can totally relate! A couple are in the "things I thought I would never say category!"
Here's to Mommyhood!
Who knew going in that we would be surrendering to snotty tissues, catching barf in our hands (and considering it a good thing that it didn't hit the upholstery)and the dreaded midnight Mama-I-wet-the-bed moments. Wouldn't trade it. Or not for long, anyway!
