The Elixir

A band aid yields great power in my little mommy world. A paper cut, a bruise, a bump…real or imagined….quickly gets covered with a bright pink band aid in our house. A band aid gives the victim the proper attention and soothing. It lowers the blood pressure of all involved. It turns down the volume of the screaming and eases the drama. It initiates the healing process. And, it’s decorative to boot.

It’s an elixir, really. Calming. Soothing. It makes nice- nice. The ultimate fix it.

Magic in a box. Pure and simple.

When was the last time you applied a band aid to your knee?

AHHHH. All better.

That, a glass of wine, and some Brie cheese and I just may be on to something, ya think?

lol! So true! Whenever my two year old gets a boo-boo, even if it's a tiny hangnail, she says- "I got boo-boo, Momma. Need ba-an." That's how she says bandaid. lol. :)

I have found that if I blow gently on the boo-boo..THEN put a band-aid, it magically takes away the pain quicker. :)

LOL! I can't say that band aids have had the same soothing power on me as they do my girls.

I think band aid was one of my daughters first words!

Unless you have kids like mine who refuse a band aid. For some reason my oldest fought them off for a long, long time. He refused. The band aid couldn't fix it, soothe it, etc. Now he knows the power of protection it provides and doesn't fight it much, especially when he is biking and needs the extra protection of a little band aid.

If they made band aides out of chocolate I'd be mutilating myself all day hehehe.

We love our Transformers band-aids here. They cure all manner of boo-boos.

I'm with you for the wine and brie cure. :)

Band-aids are great, and all, but what about CHOCOLATE?! :-)

Gummy bears will do the trick in a pinch, too. LOL

Band aids in the classroom are a powerful elixir as well. They are a satisfying symbol of being cared for. No matter how small the imagined injury I always take time for a band aid.

And darn it - the paper in my class is sharp!

So very true. That and the pacifier in my house. We jokingly call it the sedative. My 15 month old bucks around like a wild bronco during diaper changes. Get the sedative and he's calm, cool and collected. Go figure!

This is SO true!! Just yesterday one of my kids fell down and barely scraped his knee but he kept telling my husband he needed a band-aid to make it feel better and my husband kept saying "You don't need a band-aid, it's not even bleeding". I told him "Don't you know that a band-aid makes EVERYTHING feel better?". Men just have no clue sometimes!

I'm dropping by from SITS...you were the commenter above me and I wanted to come check your blog out!

oh so true in kids case.. is there a magic one for the grown-ups too??? if there is, i'd need some for my husband too. he keeps coming with all these scratches , bumps & co. from the work(he works in gastronomy for the moment).. so a couple of spongebob band aids would be good thank you!:)

Coming here from SITS and i love your blog!
Happy Thursday!

See if the bandaid was made of cheese. Or came with a little hammer to break the glass holding my wine and cheese back, then it'd be made of awesome.

Lil Miss Rambler likes to call them stickies...and when she hit her head the other day, she came around the corner with a "stickie" on her Booboo.

My (4.5yo & 3yo) *just* discovered band aids. I don't know how it took this long for them to realize their powerful healing powers. Too funny!

I was the FB on SITS this week and you left a comment. Funny thing - I've had your blog bookmarked for a few months now, so when I saw your comment I thought, "OMG, it's Mammatalk! It's Mammatalk!" LOL

Have a great day!

I could use a glass of wine, some cheese and a bandaid, and I'd feel alllll better.

Actually, you can skip the cheese and the bandaid and substitute a rum and coke for the wine, but you're definitely headed in the right direction.
