Yep. The smoke's comin' from my blog....

Alright, gang! Secret’s out. I suffer from a mean case of kitchen phobia.

One little oopsie with an Easy Bake oven back in the 70’s and I’m wounded for life.

I didn’t fare much better when I flew the nest. Domino’s Pizza pretty much kept my head above water in the dorms.

In my twenties, I was a single, career-woman-on-the-go racking up bar…Ahem…I mean, restaurant tabs all over town.

And, then I fell in love with a man who cooked…very well. Glamorous as this life may sound…and it is rather cushie here on the couch listening to those pots and pans clang away…The fact remains, this has only added to my phobia. It’s classic kitchen co-dependence.

Sure. I can make a mean pb&j…and thank God for instant macaroni, but….do I need to go on?

There have been a few awkward moments at our dinner parties.

“So glad you could come. Hubby’s in the kitchen …..making…..something…..yeah, that’s it. Something.”

“More wine? Let me see if I can go find the refrigerator….”

“The flavor? Dunno. But, if you ask ol’ fancy pants in the apron, I’m sure he’d fill ya in.”

I’ve had countless reactions.

From an envious…

“How’d ya score that deal?”

To a slightly venomous…

“Whatcha mean you don’t do kitchens?”

To the occasional confessional…

“Yeah, my hubby, too! Shhh!”

However, recently, I feel a metamorphosis occurring. The stars are aligned.

My girls are curious about cooking. I stumbled upon some great cooking blogs. And, hubby has been travelling for business.

Makes for a spiffy combination.

Yep,ladies, things are finally cooking in the kitchen.

Psst… anyone out there know what a wok looks like?

You are too funny! And kudos for having a husband who has been doing the kitchen work so far.

Funny girl! What have the girls been whipping up?

I fall under the envious. My hubby did that in the "impressionable" stage and once I was hooked turned it all over to me.....

Lol! I hear ya. I was a horrible cook. Hubby has always been the cook for us. I can do basic recipes, but he's able to just make up recipes off the top of his head and it amazes me!

Ha! You and I are kindred spirits! My hubby is the main cook too. He has yet to let me forget the time I tried to make clam chowder and used oysters instead. The whole damn thing turned green and it looked like eyeballs floating in it!

That's right! Get the girls trained, so they can fill in when hubby's gone!

Ooh I'm jealous. I'd love to sit on the sofa listening to someone else clinking pots and pans in the kitchen. I love cooking, but it would be nice to always have to.

Me too!!!

Slowly but surely, my meal in a box is coming a little bit more from a "fresh"er standpoint.

Congrats on the cook-sperimentation. :) Fun, huh? I married one of those fabulous cooking-type men, too.

But I am occasionally seduced into delusions of culinary ability by Alton Brown. And my four-year-old loves to help in the kitchen. So I've been spending a little bit more time in the kitchen, lately.

Still, I don't think I'll ever quite understand those women who "love to cook". :)

Oh - good luck.

I am a fairly new convert to cooking.

It's not as hard as I thought.

And I still "make" frozen lasgna way too often.

(I am also totally uncrafty.)

I am not the cook either. I married someone who loves to cook. When he works late it is pretty crazy to find stuff to eat. I have my Round Robin this week. On Friday. Have a great Sunday.

Two words for you friend: Crock Pot. When the hubs is gone (because you really DID score well on that one) - it will be your best friend. And you might as well teach the girls how to make the most of their time - let's just call it being efficient shall we?

Check out the Fix It and Forget It collection.

I was gifted with a love of food when I was a child, but the love of cooking I got from watching Food Network. Seriously. Pretty much everything I know about cooking was derived from folks like Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson and their ilk.

Frankly, I prefer being the one who does most of the cooking. If I'd met a man who wanted in the kitchen all the time, we'd probably never have survived the first month together. Buddy can and does cook, but that's a once in a while thing.

A woman after my own heart!!! The only good thing that my hubby thinks came from blogging....is that sometimes...he comes home to the smell of something good cooking in the crockpot. pre-blog...not so much!

Wow! Let me know how it goes, I could use the help, too!

I loathe cooking and it loathes me.
Unfortunately, I do have a child to keep alive so I have been doing more of that 'cooking thing.

I still loathe it.

Good luck!

You make me laugh :) Yay for kitchens, now go forth and boil water! :)

My husband and I were the exact opposite, and I've gotten the kitchen into him quite well, so much so, he likes to take over now!!

Go on - have fun!!! I am married to a foodie too, but he has little chance to cook these days. My main issue is not really CREATING the meal, it's thinking up the MENU. Always last minute. Not good. Planning is key!!

This is me too...except it was my mother who was a FANTASTIC cook. My lack of cooking skills is my final childhood neurosis. One day I *will* be half as good as she was, but for right now we'll stick with Chef Costco.

Oh you are so funny. My first year of marriage it took a few meals of rice pancakes (not on purpose mind you) before I broke down and called his Mama to see how she makes it. Just go slow, follow the recipe and one day you'll be flippin' eggs with one skillet while browning the sausage in another. Believe me - I'm a true testament to this!

My best, Lynn
*have the fire dep't. # handy though just in case...

That is great!!! LOL All my husband can cook are eggs and grilled cheese sandwiches! But that is a great reason to be learning, for your kids. Maybe taking a family cooking class could be alot of fun!!!

Hehe ... great post! So fabulous that your hubby cooks - mine will but prefers to eat my cooking. Silly guy.
Also, I know you really don't have any idea who I am, but I wanted to tell you that I loved your blog so much that I passed along an award to you! Enjoy! http://harwoodharbor.blogspot.com/2009/06/i-won-award.html
