“Rock a Bye, Baby…”
My two year old was cradling the plastic Jurassic beast in her arms, patting its scaly back and kissing its reptilian nose.
“Shhh,” she whispered in its ear before placing it in the cradle for further rocking.
“Go sleep,” she cooed.
I stared at the Velociraptor, swaddled in a pink baby blankie, bottle shoved between its prominent fangs.
I admired my little one’s nurturing; her kind way with the ferocious creature.
She slipped a chubby cheeked baby doll under the covers next to the dinosaur.
“Friend,” she declared, eyes glimmering with joy.
And, I could have sworn, those red dino eyes shared the same glimmer.
For different reasons.
Needless to say, I re-located that fat dolly to a safe house later that day.
Not on my watch, ya overgrown croc!
Just wanted to give a big thank you to Heather from The Extraordinary Ordinary. She gave me such a lovely shout out the other day here. I am the "short and sweet" that she refers to (third paragraph down to be specific). If you haven't seen Heather's blog, please head over. Her posts are so well written and moving. After visiting her blog, you'll feel as if you just had a chat over tea with an old friend. The gal's got talent. You won't be disappointed.
My favorite post of Heather's is here. "Remember" It's simply lovely.

That is so sweet of your little girl though! I'll have to go and pay a visit!
Awe! But them are nasty creatures. You're my hero:)
My oldest was always much fonder of dinosaurs than baby-dolls. She used to dress this certain T-Rex she had up in Barbie clothes... So funny.
A babydoll and a raptor huh? That's somewhat passive/aggressive. Hehe...
She is a loving little thing though! :) Sweet to the beasts.
My little girl just ripped the heads off her dolls. Eventually I quit buying them, cause I'd take P/A over doll murder anyday!
Phew! Thank goodness you saved baby doll from the wandering paws of Dino: it comes to something when you have to chaperone your children's toys :-)
I love the mental picture I get from this post.
My son has taken to sleeping with and loving a metal jet plane. Kids are so great.
Now I'm all weepy. Thank you, friend. Really. Thank you!
I love your writing style and sense of humor! This just cracked me up. Sounds like something my little girl would do!
And I have to agree that Heather is an awesome writer. I found you through her and I'm glad I did. I am always up for a good laugh!
Too cute!!! My kids are sick and Optimus Prime, Black Spidey and the Tonka truck were snuggled next to my little girl last night. Dolly got to sleep with me.
I think you made a very wise choice in saving your child!
Heather is an extremely gifted writer. I love reading her blog!
The relocation was crucial. :-)
Everyone needs a little bit of love for sure..
LOL So cute. And I'm sure the dino has a face only a mother could love. Am I right?!
BTW, I love Heather's blog too!
too cute. good save for the doll. : )
Please just tell her to stay away from the scaly ones with fangs when she is sixteen!!
Relocation was a wise move. did you change her name to protect the innocent? My son's dinos mysteriously keep co-mingling with my daughters dollies. I don't know if there's stalking afoot, or I need to pay more attention to my "pick up and chuck" style of housecleaning....
Well now I just feel horrible. My almost-3 year old son has more of the tendency to yell at their toys and use the words I use when he is in trouble, like "what did I say...are you done yet....I said get in the bath!" I think I need some lessons.
I'm sure the dino had EVERY intentions of eating his new "friend". Good call to take dolly to a safe house. Where would she be without you?
