'Twas a dozey kinda day....

We were having a dozy afternoon in the backyard

With Pappa in his swim trunks and I in my floppy hat.

Our gals were about to settle down

For a nice hammocky nap….

When out from our bedroom there arose such a clatter

I sprang from my lawn chair to see what was the matter

Away to the glass slider, I flew like a flash

Ran into the slider and felt like an a*s

My computer screen was emitting an eerie blue glow

And I began to shiver, sweat and scream, “Oh, Lord no…”

My very own Apple computer was yelling “COME HERE!!…

Your Mamma talk blog has been up all year.

Have you forgotten? Haven’t you ignored her enough?”

Then, my keyboard began to type up some stuff…

“You have a blog. A lonely blog, too.

She feels neglected and she’s feeling quite blue.”

Well, I tried to explain and I started to Boo-Hoo

“We were on vacation and the kids had the flu.

Besides, who blogs in the summer, see here for a clue.”

“’Enough,” screamed the ‘puter, “You know what to do!”

So, here I sit hoping and praying that this will do.

Some bad poetry and goofy off season fun.

Now, back to the wading pool. I was enjoying the sun!

A little dip

It’s been years since I’ve done anything of the sort.

But, now that I’ve given it a whirl, I’m in.

I spent the better half of the morning properly waterlogging the lower half of my body in our new wading pool in the backyard.

When my daughters first invited me into the inflatable hippo pool for a dip, I waved it off. I assumed there wasn’t room. Surely I’d manage to pop the poor thing. I shuddered at the thought of a neighbor peeking over the fence to discover me lodged between a water toy and a toddler, all white, jiggly and fully exposed.

Then, something overcame me. I threw my inhibitions to the wind and joined in the splashy, summery fun. The gals moved over and seemed to rather enjoy using my belly as a dock for their sailboats.

Seems things work out better when you sprinkle a little fun in your day….between the loads of laundry, I mean.

Gotta try it more often.

Go ahead. Dare ya.

August- A Poser of A Month...

I have bone to pick with August. She’s a faker of a month. A poser. A bit of a bait and switcher. She claims to be a member of the Summer family, full of sunshine fun and pool parties. But, there’s something about her long, hot days that reminds me of the day after a party.

She’s a day late, settling in with the empty bottles, crumpled napkins and deflating balloons. All the fun is in her rearview mirror….4th of July parades, last days of school and family vacations…Ahem, more specifically, my family vacations.

And, September keeps peering over her shoulder with her long, yellow school buses and sharpened pencils.

Kinda makes me nervous.

Maybe August gets a bad rap because of the lack of holidays. No holiday luster adding some life to her ho-hum calendar. No themes. No traditions. No jingly bells or bows. No magical character decorating eggs or scattering four leaf clovers across her days here in August.

I know I am not the only one less than pleased with August’s yearly visit. Everywhere, mini vans are returning home from long road trips, tents are unpitched, kiddie pools deflated and displeased children are buying school supplies.

On second thought, maybe it’s time to cut August a break.

Maybe it’s not her fault.

Maybe August signed up for summer and got the short end of the stick?

Maybe she’s doing the best with what she was given.

Maybe she’s misunderstood.

OK, August. I am giving you a second chance. Show me what you got.

Those dog days....

So, they call 'em the dog days of summer? The way I see it, these lazy summery days are more like cat days.

Dozing, belly up, in the sun. Stretching and yawning the day away. Meditative. Relaxed. The Devil may care. Purrrr.

Yep. The cat days of summer.

A dog?

Well, a dog is for September. Up and at ‘em. Ears perked and tail a waggin’. Eager to greet the day. Attentive and enthusiastic.

The dog days of Autumn.

There ya go. Just a little more accurate, I say.

Woof.

You’re welcome.

Here Comes the Sun

Sorry for the brief absence, all.

You see, the sun has been calling my name. It’s been a bit of a wolf call, actually. Long and drawn out….impossible to ignore.

And, I’ve responded in typical lady like fashion…batting my eyelashes…pretending to ignore his flirtatious gestures. Telling him my dance card is full. Biding my time.

Until, finally…the perfect day.

75 degrees. No wind. Blue skies.

My little ducklings in tow, I made my way to the nearest patch of sun. There was a whole lot of lounging. A bit of strolling. A dab of picnicking. Plenty of skipping. Some bug catching. And, quite possibly too much bubble blowing.

And, again, the next day….and the next…

Summer, my friends, has stolen me away….

Author’s note….Don’t worry. You aren’t rid of me yet.
